Digital Camcorder recommendations please!

Asking on behalf of a friend (fitness instructor). Budget is up to around 500 quid. Ideally after something that can be connected to a PC to be able to capture images/freeze frames of movement of the human body for analysis of posture etc etc.

What else would be needed for the PC to enable this? Treat me as a complete newbie as I know nothing about this subject!!

Many thanks!

A great camcorder (cue MartinImber ) is the Sony TRV33 that can be bought for around £550

Video can be transfered to a PC via firewire and stills via Memory Stick or USB.

To get video onto the PC you will need a firewire port. This may (but not normally) be on the MoBo or can be added as a PCI card for around £20. If buying a firewire card you will get the DV cable (6 pin to 4 pin) included or if not can be bought for around £5.
If the PC has Windows XP then that include MS Movie Maker. Download the free upgrade to MM2 and that is all the software you will need. If other version of Windows then you can get basic software bundled with a PCI firewire card.

Yeh, but you do tend to let people know how much you like it & if it's that good, why not

OK The TRV33 is the cheapest Sony with a proper 16x9 mode

Hmm..I'm not sure that statement is 100% correct. While the TRV33 does have improved 16:9 because it reads a 'wider' area of the CCD, it is still not a native 16:9 camera. It is just a higher quality 4:3 one (because it uses those "spare" pixels) so captures more image and then stretches the rest to 16:9.

This is my understanding, but I confess to not being 110% on this.

No probs Jase, incidentally the TRV33 is a superb camera and well worthy of a look (as suggested above).
