hi i am looking to get an sony minidv camcorder hc51, can anyone tell me if it has usb to download video to computor, and how long it takes, also any other info thanks gary

MiniDV typically do not download via USB
It is firewire and that is real time
USB comes on some Mini DV camcorders but usually these are webcam use or for stills from card or rarely for low quality video on a flash memory card

Not according to the specs here and anyway Mini-dv needs to be transferred by Firewire

i have an compaq a910em laptop, dont think i have a firewire port,so does that mean i cant download my camcorder

Hopefully your laptop will either have a PCMCIA (aka Cardbus aka PC Card) slot or (if newer) an ExpressCard slot, into which you can fit a Firewire/IEEE1394 card, approx. cost £10-20. If you want links let me know.
