... to convert my old V8 tapes to mini dv. I actually got john lewis to replace my old defective camcorder so now I have no way of playing these tapes. Clearly I do not want to buy one - is there any retailer that have a no quibble returns policy on camcorders as it this could be the cheapest solution if my conscience could bear it.

Contact sales@emwelec.co.uk as they hire out a deck for playing Hi8 or standard 8mm tapes at £35 per week. But you will need a way of converting analogue to digital.

If you buy a camcorder from Jessops, you can return it within 30 days and get your money back, provided, of course, you haven't ripped everything apart and it's still in 'saleable' condition.
