Camera & editing, AVCHD?

hello all this is my first post on this forum.

I have been tasked with putting together a basic camera & editing set up. Programming will be 30 min talks and demos which will be played back through an IPTV system.

The camera I am looking at is the Panasonic AG-HMC150 which records in AVCHD format onto SDHC cards. Although final broadcast will be in Std Def I like the convenience of recording to SDHC cards.

Editing will be done on a Mac, probably an iMac. Does anyone use a Mac for this? Does iMovie work with this format? What about Final Cut?

One of my problems is playback of edited material. I may have to upload them onto the IPTV server, probably in Mpeg2 SD. Can I finalise/export from the Mac in Mpeg2? How quick?

Alternativley I could use external players. I see the Panasonic Bluray player will play back SDHC cards naitivley. Can I export an edited programme back to an SDHC card in AVCHD format? Or can I export to a HDD media player that will play AVCHD files?

Sorry for all the questions.

My sony HD camera records HD in AVCHD format - but you can also record in SD which is in DVD compliant MPEG-2. Perhaps that would be easier/quicker than playing around with HD video when you don't want or require it?

That makes a lot of sense. I would like to have the option of editing in HD, maybe for future use.

Be aware that not all AVCHD camcorders shoot SD.
