Angry Where to find a firewire extension adaptor?

Hiya guys and gals,

I've got a 5M firwire cable from my living room to the loft upstairs where the comp is, but found out it is 1M short!

Other than having to buy another longer cable to replace this, can you get a 'barrel' connector to daisy-chain together two 6-pin cables??

I've had a good look on various sites but no luck!

I've had a look on all the normal sites and the longest cable I could find was 5m & no couplers for firewire.
The only thing I did find was a DV repeater at £69.99 from www.keene.co.uk
The only other thing I can suggest, if nobody else on this forum has any suggestions, is to go to the experts on the Computer Video forum at www.dvdoctor.net where they know just about everything about DV & PC's.

Mark.

Thanks for that Mark,

There is also a repeater for £39.99 that does exactly what I wanted on the Keene site too. Still a bit steep for what it does!

Think I'll get that then.

I believe you're limited to 5M with firewire & USB (or is that 3M?) Anyway, what are you piping across the house?

Audio- try and use optical or coaxial

Video- Composite or Component

PC's- Cat 5 cable.

I am connecting my DV camcorder to the comp from my living room - everything else is connected to my amp and plasma at present audio and picture-wise and because I do some editing its just more convenient to have it there.

I'll look into whether I can use more than 5M but I can't see why not otherwise why have a 'repeater' on the market?
