Good Software Help (Editing, SFX, VFX)

As above, what is a good piece of Editing, Sound Effects and Video Effects software?

Running, XP Home, 2.6ghz Dual Core, 2gb Ram.

Thanks in Advance,
Sam

What are you editing from .. and to
Also What have you considered?
It is easier to comment on what you state than give advice on " good software" : IMHO they are all good!
There is a Software " shortlist " in the FAQ and what you end up with will depend of how much you want to pay and
How you get on with the software ( very important: The GUI can be the deal breaker)
What tends to happen is that people just list their personal favourites
Do a little digging .. a few threads in the recent past have covered " which software?"

Re: Good Software Help (Editing, SFX, VFX)

Thanks for the advice to start this thread,
I film using a MiniDV camcorder, then i use "Windows Movie Maker", Save as A .avi file and then "try" too use FXhome VisionLab Studio. (No SFX Program yet)
I would like the new software to look more professional if possible.
Not really bothered about price as going on the company account.
Not really considered anything, apart from WMM and FXhome.
Thanks in advance,
Sam

all the adobe stuff is good, and works together well, adobe premier for editing, after fx for fx. other good progs are magic bullet, this can make your vids look like movies by emulatiing 24fps. something like that anyway.

Re: Good Software Help (Editing, SFX, VFX)

I to have been looking into this and found a website Video Editing Software Review 2009 - TopTenREVIEWS which was very useful. Also if you go onto the website for the top two packages you can download a free 30 day trial and therefore try before wasting any money! Also checkout ebay for bargins as some of the software is expensive to buy outright.
