Is Sony HDR-HC9 HDV camcorder the best for tape format?

Is Sony HDR-HC9 HDV camcorder the best for tape format?, the only other I have seen is the Canon HV30, but I'm wary of the build quality of the Canon and am leaning towards the Sony HDR-HC9 HDV camcorder as Sony have been making camcorders for decades

Hi,
If you want one asap yes the one above is reallly good, but if you can wait a month or so Sony will be bringing out new models. (Will be more than that one)
Hope this helps,
Sam

hi, do you mean so Sony will be releasing a new HDV tape model, what is it called and will it be better than the Sony HC9?

On this thread
Cannon HV30 any reason not to buy?

Re: Is Sony HDR-HC9 HDV camcorder the best for tape format?

I own 3 Sony camcorders but have equally used Canons. I think a word in defence of Canon is in order. They have also been making Cameras for a long time and camcorders for not much less time than Sony TBH. Although the HV20 seemed a little less sturdy it was actually fine
Canon also makes some brilliant camcorders especially Semi Pro Prosumer. The XH A1 is very good
And
Sony has made some dodgy models in the past ( they would rather we all forgot about! )
Anyway
I digress . the HC9 is fine. Unless Sony decide to put the Bionz and Exmor technology ( which they did with the SR 10-12, but not HC9) in the newer models , Im unsure if any changes from the HC9 will not be purely cosmetic
in the way that the HV 30s replacements have been, in absolute terms
It seems the manufacturer's are not that hot on developing consumer HDV models , rather paying more attention to the AVCHD Flash memory/ HDD models
The HDV models still continue to get attention at the Semi Pro / Prosumer level

They might be, not 100% certain yet, but they normaly do each year around March/April time.
If they do release a new one it will better than the HC9 because the Techo has moved foward sightly.

Sony web site for HDV is the same, not updated and can't find any news of a new HDV Sony model for 2009 on google, maybe the HC9 will be the last

How?
As I stated above, the technology seems to be focused on the AVCHD HDD/ Flash memory card models over HDV. Brands seem to be limiting HDv tape models to a narrower market at the consumer level
Even the HV30 and HC9 were not big steps over the HV20 and HC7

Yh true, i have used them before at my dads shop.
Maybe go for a AVCHD or go with the HC9.
Cause like Senu said the techno is going towards AVCHD.
If they are any new features they wont be worth the extra money.

They dont always update the site until the last minute, which is silly because people would ring one of the stores to get more infomation.

Re: Is Sony HDR-HC9 HDV camcorder the best for tape format?

I was in a Sony store last week asking about HDV cams and the sales person looked up the new Sony models for this year and stated there was no updated HDV model being released, but had the details of the new flash & HDD models. So there might not be a new Sony HDV cam being released at all!

Mark.
