Playback of HD files from panasonic SD9

Hi basically i want the simplest way to play back these files.
i want to take the sd card with the avchd files on (in mts2 format i believe)and plug the card into a device which will playback the video on my hdtv.

i want the cheapest option possible (dont want to use the camcorder!) so that rules out using a ps3.
could i use a western digital hd media player ? not sure if it has an sd card slot for this purpose or has anyone used this...... http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/-/267/347/-/5476154/Panasonic-DMW-SDP1EB-High-Definition-Sd-Memory-Card-Reader/Product.html?searchtype=genre[/URL]

it says it plays video at 15 fps i guess this too slow but would appreciate anyones views who has used it.
Thanks for any help
darren

Re: Playback of HD files from panasonic SD9

It is extremely cheap, considerably reduced, probably due to the fact that it appears to support Mjpeg and stills only. There is no mention of AVCHD support.

Certainly the Western Digital palyer can play the .m2ts or .mts files OK, but it doesn't have an SD slot. I just plug the SD card into a USB card reader, and plug that into the WD player.

Re: Playback of HD files from panasonic SD9

I've also been trying to find the best way to play my SD9 movies. The best player at present looks like the Panasonic BD35, and it's a pretty good price at £178. I like the idea of just pulling the card out of the camera and putting it in the DVD player!
Is it ok if I add a question to this thread? Can you just burn mts / m2ts files on to a DVD and then play them on a bluray player in the same way as dropping DivX files onto a DVD and playing them on a DivX compatible DVD player? ... or do you have to have a particular file structure like 'normal' DVDs ... you know, all the Video_TS / Audio_TS stuff?

You have to have the full structure, and therefore need normally to use a video editor to create the disk. The SD card slot on the BD35 works OK, because it finds on the card the normal bluray structure it expects.

I've never actually tried just formatting a standard DVD to UDF2.5 and then zapping the whole Panny directory structure from an SD card on to the DVD. Maybe someone else has tried this.

Note that there are problems with the BD35 if you try to create the AVCHD DVD using Sony Vegas products. The BD35 doesn't understand the disks unless you carry out a modification procedure defined in a previous thread. Ulead/Corel's VS AVCHD disks do work on the BD35.

You have to do all the 'Video_TS/Audio_TS stuff' I'm afraid -except that it's different!
You have to author the discs as Blu-ray discs, with the correct file structure.

One of the reasons I decided to give Blu-ray a miss, and, rather than do the disc thing all over again, I've gone for the soild state route.
The Western Digital player referred to above plays all sorts of HD formats- it's not that fussy. Doesn't have any internal storage like the similar, but more expensive, Popcorn Hour A110 player, but is a lot cheaper at less than £100.

So I either play back my original .mts files, from the SD card plugged into acard reader, or turn my edited files into HD Xvid or AVC h.264 formats and play them from either a USB external HDD,or from a USB 'stick' plugged straight in . So much easier than making discs all over again!

Of course, if you're into all the 'menu' thing, then you will still have to go the Blu-ray route, at least for the present, AFAIK.
