HD editing software urget help!!!!

I have just bought a Panasonic SD9, this is my first camcorder. It’s my son’s christening on the weekend and will be using the SD9. I am totally new to all this and would like to edit the footage at a later date. I have searched the forum and see that the two main software used by others are,
Sony Vegas Movie studio 9
Corel Video studio x2
Now I know nothing about all this and would appreciate some help in deciding which one would suit my needs and what are the advantages and disadvantages of both. I really appreciate all your help in this.

Thanks

Re: HD editing software urget help!!!!

I would go with Cyberlink Power Director 7 as a trial first as they are the only ones I know of that have released a patch for your cam. There was some initial problem with the SD9 files.
If the trial doesn't go well then give VideoStudio Pro a look and again, use the trial. They have a great forum.
I don't know much about the Sony software but like all software people seem to love it or hate it!

Worth noting that Sony Vegas Studio 9 Platinum (the version that can edit AVCHD files, provided your PC is powerful enough) is on offer from Sony at the moment - 35% off.

Sony Creative Software - Online Store - Special Offer

Go for the download though. You lose the benefit if you order the boxed version as they rush you £20 to deliver it.

Re: HD editing software urget help!!!!

I also have an SD9 but I dont really think my laptop is powerful enough to run this software.

Your computer needs to be at least dual core but preferably quad core. Some folk have to leave their computer on all night whilst the software does the editing.

I transfer the contents of the memory card onto my PS3. Ive also purchased the Panasonic VW-BN1 burner for copying onto DVD, but neither of these options allow for editing.

Your SD9 will do a little editing itself, but only in the form of creating and deleting chapters.
