That's the exact reason I bought it I was stuck between going Standard or High def the cost drop and 30 guarantee were the clinchers.

Re: Panasonic HDC-SD9 £274 on QVC

I didn't want to spend more than £300 but really wanted a HD camcorder because the PQ is a big step up from what i've seen. I knew any SD camcorder i went with, i would have wished it was HD

Re: Panasonic HDC-SD9 £274 on QVC

They're a funny lot QVC: they do seem to price end of line stuff a lot lower. That's where I got my SD1 also at a bargain price. I'm greatly tempted, despite the SD1 only being 18 months or so old. Anyone tell me why I shouldn't !?

I got slightly thrown when I bought the SD1 since they never sent any email confirming the order. It just eventually appeared. They seem to be more call centre oriented.

Just realised if I do get one, I get a real Panasonic spare battery for the SD1: I think they are the same. So let's see, that really makes it only £210.

Edit: gone off the idea. Somehow I had the impression that this was the one with the proper viewfinder! And the CCDs are smaller than the SD1.

Good spot! Just ordered one. At that price, puts a very quick end to my debating if I should get the SD9 or wait one something from this year's model line up!

Re: Panasonic HDC-SD9 £274 on QVC

It took me a few hours to get an email. You'll have to look in the account to see if you were lucky.

Wish they were able to give a better indication of when it's shipping. It says 5-7 days after card been authorized yet they ship is Royal Mail Special Delivery which is guaranteed next day delivery.

Re: Panasonic HDC-SD9 £274 on QVC

I'm just glad I saw it, the cheapest I had seen it was £380 + delivery so I'm well chuffed. I received an e-mail confirmation 12 hours after I ordered.

Carry cases I hadn't even thought about, probably weight till I get it and then see what's available, but I definitely will not be buying Panasonic's recommended case.

Can someone clear something up for me, does the SD9 come with a SD card or not and does anyone know anywhere I can get compatible batteries from?

Thanks

Re: Panasonic HDC-SD9 £274 on QVC

The SD9 definitely comes with a 4GB card in the Box.

If i like the camera then i'll go and buy a 16GB one for the camcorder and stick the 4GB one in my Digital Camera. I too will be interested in a carry case. I want to be able to carry it out around theme parks for example without it being too much of a hassle

Re: Panasonic HDC-SD9 £274 on QVC

Confirmation came through after 7 mins. Looks like I was lucky!

Anyone tried the DC batteries? They cost £15-20 but need to use their own charger. What's that all about? Am I allowed to post a link here (to a commercial site)?

I think they need there own charger because Panasonic have done what a lot of Inkjet manufacturers have done and placed a chip or something similar on the battery as a way of checking the battery status but also cutting down on cheap alternatives.

I just don't want to pay the hyper inflated costs they charge for Panasonic's own brand batteries particularly when I'm looking at getting either the middle capacity battery or two of the smaller capacity batteries.

If you can't post the site could you PM me with it?

Thanks

Re: Panasonic HDC-SD9 £274 on QVC

These cheap "replacement" battery sellers really stretch the meaning of "compatible." My prediction is that the battery will ship with a small blanking plug that fits into the DC socket in the battery bay which fools the camcorder into thinking you've connected the external supply, thus overriding the chip check. So long as you don't lose the plug, you'll be fine - but you'll not get any indication of when the battery's about to run out of juice, nor will the Panasonic warranty cover any damage caused to your camcorder by a faulty battery.

One of these: Lowepro - Nova 2 AW

I bought a larger bag because I wanted to be able to carry my minidisc recorder and mic, wide-angle lens, memory cards, cables, spare batteries, and also a battery charger for trips away, in the same bag as the camcorder. I was actually amazed, when I took delivery of the Nova, that a bag that looked so compact from the outside actually had so much room inside. It's a great bag and I'm very happy with it.

Isn't this a case of Manufacturers profiteering like the inkjet manufacturers have, it now means you have to spend over the odds to get a Panasonic battery rather than in the past a compatible.

Andrew, have you got extra batteries if so are they original or compatibles?

I bought a spare Panasonic VBG-130 - not a clone. £60 for a battery that should last 3 to 5 years isn't exorbitant in my opinion. Sure, it'd be great if they were cheaper, but I'm not willing to take the risk with a third-party clone. I find that two standard batteries get me through a day's out-and-about no problems, though I don't shoot everything that moves which saves a bit on battery life.

Mine has arrived

Going to charge the battery now and read the manual in the meantime.

I can't believe how small this is. It's Tiny. Glad it's all black and not the mixed Black/Silver one

I ordered mine from Jess*ps. Took about 10 days. Occasionally they have them in stock, most of the time though it's a special order. I hear (anecdotally) that the Panasonic supply chain is not the most consistent.

Re: Panasonic HDC-SD9 £274 on QVC

Chaps are asking about a case for day trips

I use a lowe pro lens case for my SD5 (same dimensions), I got it from ebay think I paid about £12 delivered

Jessops link to same

Its a snug fit, but reasonable protection, and ideal for a days outing, comes with strong velcro on the back for attaching to backpack, belt or in my case puschchair/buggy.

Hope this helps
