DCR-HC96e - AV in HELP!!

Hi all

I have connected my old Sony Hi8 camera to my HC96e via S/video-phono with the appropriate lead. According to the instructions, I should be able to stream the analogue footage via the Sony 96e which is connected by firewire to my mac. This does not work!!!!

There must be some input switch on the 96e to select an external AV source but I just cannot see anything in the menu to do this. All I get on the computer is either the view from the lens or if I switch to playback, then the picture from the tape.

Anyone any idea....please.

Thanks

Philip

Re: DCR-HC96e - AV in HELP!!

Does th HC 96 have AV in on as a default? If so when you run footage from your hi-8 you should see int on the LCD monitor when on "play"
If it does and you arent getting any joy try the menu to see if it has to be enabled
What you are trying is " pass through" though and not all av-in enabled camcorders can do pass thoutgh. With some you may need to record to MiniDv tape before then capturing to PC

Re: DCR-HC96e - AV in HELP!!

According to the spec, the DCR HC96e does allow pass through.
The manual (which you can download from here:DCR-HC96E (DCRHC96E) : Manual : Camcorders : Sony) details how to activate the function, on page 93.
If that doesn't help, maybe you've got a faulty port?

Re: DCR-HC96e - AV in HELP!!

Thanks for your help Senu & Rogs.

I have been away, so I have not been able to post.
Rogs you are right, it does have passthrough, and this I found in the instructions, but I could not get any picture through the camera. After much messing about, I found a sub-menu - which I can not see listed in the instructions anywhere - giving you the option to switch between Video & Svideo. Once I found this and switched to SVideo I was able to passthrough. The instructions do tell you to switch to A/V in (which is obvious) but not about the format switching.

Many thanks

Philip
