DCR-TRV22 Winxp won't recognize

newb alert/

I have a sony dcr-trv22 and a ton of video that I want to d/l but I'm having some issues.
I have winxp and usb, no firewire. Connecting the camera to the PC yields no results. I downloaded the usb driver from sony but I get nothing.
I un/reinstalled all the usb ports and reinstalled the driver....Nada...
Camera is on VCR and the usb port appears to work correctly for other devices.

The USB can only be used to transfer stills. You need a Firewire port to transfer the video (using, for example, Windows Movie Maker). If you have a desktop PC you can get a cheap PCI card with one or more Firewire ports, if you have a laptop then hopefully you will either have a PCMCIA slot or an ExpressCard slot, to which you can add a Firewire card.

Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I see....thanks, I will look into that.

BUT....the computer still didn't even recognize the camera. Would it only recognize if set to 'memory' where the stills presumably are?

Probably.

I must admit my old MiniDV camera was a bit fussy on the USB/stills side of things - I seem to recall it only liked talking to the supplied (Pixela) software which was painful in itself.

Let me know if you need help choosing a Firewire card. You shouldn't need to pay more than £13 (for a PCI card).

Firewire.. way to go
For stills assuming they go on a card.. a card reader is far less hassle than using the camcorder and USB
The only real use for USB in a camcorder (IMHO) is use of it as a webcam
