Mixing Canon HF100 and Nikon D90 Footage

What's the best way to mix Canon HF100 and Nikon D90 footage for output to DVD Video?

Should I keep the D90 at 24p and shoot the HF100 at 24p to match, shoot the D90 at 24p and HF100 at 60i and match in post, something else?

Or is it just a very poor idea to mix the two in the first place?

Thanks,
-Joel

Yes it is (IMHO) especially as they will both be " degraded" to PAL mpeg2 for DVD video ( of you are in PAL land) and you no doubt end up with quite unpredictable results as they are quite non identical to start with ( both in codec and encoding rate)

Actually, I'm in NTSC land.

Thanks for the reply.

Ah.. perhaps less so then but even so Mpeg2 for DVD in NTSC land and 24p will give you unexpected results, not necessarily pleasantly so
but
If your video editing software can handle it and encode well, you lose nothing by experimenting but you will be combining non identical hi def files and down converting to SD whichever way you look at it

In which way?

The thing with the HF100 is that its 24p isn't actually stored that way. So to get it to true 24p to match the D90 requires playing with the pulldown. Seems it might be easier just to keep 60i and convert the D90 to match (one conversion) rather than two (one for the HF100 and the second for final to DVD).

Agree?

I will definitely be experimenting with this but any pointers and advice will be appreciated.

Yes
I was referring to the fact that 24p is not achieved identically by the different camcorder and indeed not interpreted by software the same way

That is the spirit I just think the more tinkering footage needs the greater the potential for PQ loss
