Exclamation Panosonic NV-DS11 Mini DV Camcorder Problem

Hi Everybody,
I wonder if someone can help with my problem.
I've owned this Camcorder for a number of years, at christmas one of my children decided it was better to play with it than there new toys, since then a little red tape sign comes up on the view finder as soon as you turn it on, at first i assumed the tape that was in was full and put a brand new tape in, but it was still the same and it wont do anything on camera or vcr.
If its not repairable, I would prefer to buy new camcorder with either a built in harddrive or memory card slot, but
Is there anyway I can put all my old Mini DV tapes onto a computer so I could save them to my external harddrive or burn them onto CD.

Many thanks Paul

If you are saying that the camcorder won't play the tapes at all then you won't be able to use it to transfer the video to a computer (ie. via Firewire).

As the previous poster has pointed out, if your camcorder's not cooperating then using it to transfer video isn't an option. You'll either need to get hold of another mini-DV camcorder (beg, borrow, or fleabay), or take your tapes to a commercial video transfer service - fleabay may well be the less expensive option.

Kids, huh? Before you know it they'll be asking for the keys to the car and pranging that, too.

Incidentally, is there a chance the manual might be lurking about somewhere? That at least might tell you what the error symbol actually means, and armed with that knowledge we might be more likely to give you an idea of repair costs.

Re: Panosonic NV-DS11 Mini DV Camcorder Problem

Is there a reset button on the camcorder ? The reason I ask is that I have a NV-GS11 and I get a red warning on mine every now and again and I have to press the reset button , then all is well . I've had mine afew years and it's a great little camcorder ,reluctant to get rid of it too and ask myself .....FOR WHAT . I now wouldn't know what to buy , there seems so many and I do like the miniDV system . I also have an older Sharp camcorder so I can interchange tapes to put footage on to my PC if anything happens to the Panny .
Have a look for a reset button and try it , see if it makes any difference .
