Canon Camcorder MVX 200 - Zooming

This camera has developed a fault and it 'zooms in' from wide-angle(W) to telephoto(T) without the zoom lever being touched.

The only way to prevent this is physically hold the lever to W.

Today it went the other way i.e. Zoomed out.

The zoom indicator on the display is permanantly displayed.

The remote is switched off.

Would anyone have any ideas what the fault might be please?

There must be a some sort of fault in the electrics it sounds like the repair shop may be needed if it continues robert.
