Play Mini DVD on PC from Samsung VP-DX100

Hi All

I work for Comet's Digital Helpline.

One of our customers recently phoned us wanting to play back recordings she had made on her Samsung VP-DX100 DVD Camcorder on her Laptop.

The camcorder uses mini dvds.

She has purchased 8cm DVD-RW's to go wiv the camcorder.

When playing back recordings on the laptop via Windows media player it just freezes and crashes the Laptop.

From the information I have found on google etc, the camcorder uses a method of writing to the dvd's that a pc does not recognise.

I've had a look on Samsungs website and there is no software that enables this, infact there is nothing on the site apart from a codec, but it does not say what this is for or what it does, basicly there website was of no help at all and I cannot find the answer on google, so I've come here.

Does any1 out there have 1 of these and managed to get the dvd's playing through a pc optical drive.

Is there any converters/players that will recognise the disks format and allow her to pleay them or make a PC compatible DVD-R or at least grab the video file to the hard disk so she can then create and burn a new pc compatable dvd.

Laptop running XP I belive with DVD writer supporting all formats, will get cust to download latest version of DirectX and K-Lite codec pack.

Any help or advise wud be greatly appricated.

Cheers Dan

Guessing either she has not finalised the disc or more likely she has recorded in Vr format rather than Video dvd .She needs to explore the disc and if it shows as a Video_ts folder which is unlikely as that should play ok .Then the problemm is elsewhere But if it is a Vr recording then Super which is free will convert to standard dvd format. She needs to open the file and drag the main file into super then choose the output format

Does the disc play on a standalone DVD player?

Re: Play Mini DVD on PC from Samsung VP-DX100

Thanks for the replys

She has tried it unfinalised and finalised. As far as I am aware, finalising a DVD-RW is basicly only copy protecting it from the device that origanly wrote it and does not gaurentee it will play on other devices unlike DVD-R, when their finalised and the TOC is writen they seam to play on anything that supports them, I may be wrong but from personal experance RW is a pain swaping between units!

No, she has tried it in a standalone and it just says invalid disk, but that could just be due to copy protection in the standalone not letting you play home writen media or it could be that the camcorder is not writing in a standard format, I suspect its the later.
