Canon MV650i image quality problem

Hi,

In the past I have borrowed a friends panasonic £400 ish camcorder. Last week I took the plunge and invested in a £500 Canon MV650i - all of the reviews of it commented on how good the image quality is meant to be.

However the image quality I am getting is pretty awful - very blocky - and looks like a much lower resolution than the cheaper Panasonic. Because of all the reviews I think I either have a broken camera or there is a setting that needs changing somewhere but for the life of me I can't find any ?

Anybody able to offer some advice ??
