1080p or 720p camcorder

I have a 50" Lg plama tv 720p. and was wondering if there is any point buying a 1080p camcorder. Will the image be any better for using a 1080 on a 720 Tv. Thanks in advance

As far as i am concerned a 1080 cam is still the way to go for you as you then have 1080 recordings and may not always have the 720p tv.
