Editing video taken from digital camera

I have video taken from a digital camera that I want to edit in Premiere or Windows Movie maker and transfer to DVD But I get an error message saying it does not support compression. It's a 17 min. video 1.8 G in size. Is there any way to convert the compression?

That doesn't sound right, DV is roughly 1GB per 5mins. How did you obtain this video, did you capture it from the camcorder via Firewire? Are you sure it's DV format? (wrapped in an AVI container).

Download GSpot and see if it recognises the file, then press the '1' then '2' buttons and it will detect the format and what codec is required to play/edit it:
GSpot Codec Information Appliance

Re: Editing video taken from digital camera

the video was captured from a digital camera (not camcorder) I transfered it to my hard drive from the camera's flash drive via a usb card reader.

You said in an earlier post that it was an .AVI, but if it's highly compressed as I believe it may be then it's most probably an mpeg file.
As advised previously, download Gspot, this will give the exact type of file, you may need an editor capable of handling the file type.
Most cameras (you don't state the make) as compared to camcorders use high compression, possibly MP4, if this is the case then you can use a program called MP4Cam2AVI (free) to convert

I found out that it is a motion jpeg (.MJPEG). I'm trying to download a conversion program. there is one from AVS4you in the UK. but im having trouble buying it. Mastercard is not letting me do it. If there is another conversion program Id like to know about it. Thanks
