hv30 output format

I suppose this is really just a very simple question, but can someone please tell me in what format I can output edited footage from an hv30. Let me explain why (or you can just skip this and tell me the answer).

I'm in the market for an hd camcorder as my new baby is becoming interesting! I'd decided to buy the canon hf 100, but discovered that my laptop did not meet the minimum requirements for avchd editing as noted on Pinnacle's website for pinnacle 12. So thinking I knew all i needed too, i decided instead to buy an hv30. My belief was that editing this does not require such a high powered computer as it is recorded as hdv rather than avchd. However, when looking at the hv 30 in a shop, i was told that the system requirements for editing would be the same as a dvd disc made from my recording would need to be in avchd.

Basically, I just want to confirm if this is correct, in which case, a new laptop will be required, or are there options other than avchd for hd output from an hv30.

I hope this makes sense to those of you with knowledge, because I'm really at the limits of my understanding about it all!

thanks

...thanks
Check your laptop is powerful enough for hdv editing and if so it should be fine, pinnacle can be a pain[tempermental]but easy to use and good if it likes your laptop. The hdv tapes can be copied to dvd + avchd and blu ray discs[a bd burner needed for blu ray]good luck.

Re: hv30 output format

thanks Chris. So is the power of the computer needed more for editing or rendering?

It's more to do with editing(adding transitions) and playback, HDV as compared to AVCHD is much easier to edit and playback, you could use an AVCHD cam then convert the files to HDV for editing and playback although this would add one more process to the project.
IMO HDV is a better format for editing anyway, so although I have both types of cam HDV(HV20) and AVCHD(TG3) I always convert the AVCHD files to HDV, IMHO, and I think most would agree, there is no difference in quality after converting

Agree with all the above posts
You dont need that much " juice" to edit HDV

Even if you need to create an AVCHD disc ( Hi def disc on DVD media ) from HDV material ( you can) . It will take a little longer than from native AVCDH files but it wont need a much more powerful PC than you needed to edit the HDv files

Sorry i have not been back,as the others said unless your laptop is getting old in the tooth it should be fine for hdv,one thing i said about blu ray and external bd drives i am not sure if that will work with laptops as they are meant for deck computors.
