Question I've complete of copying Digital 8 tape onto 1tb HDD - now I got question

Hi I've finish copying all 40 Digital 8 tape onto 1TB HDD.

My next job is to start copying onto DVD.

I've got Sony vegas movie studio 9. Which include DVD architect studio.

My question is what that max length on dvd to keep the quality the same? I know that dvd/hdd recoder do xp for 1hrs and 2hrs on sp.

I want to make the right choice of putting onto disc by keeping the same quality

thanks

Re: I've complete of copying Digital 8 tape onto 1tb HDD - now I got question

The answer is a bit less simple
Ideally it should be 1Hr per Disc
In reality the difference in quality may be marginal compare to 2 hrs after which it drops a fair bit
Also if you have a 90- 120 min Variable bitrate encoding doing 2 passes it may look just as good as a CBR encoding single pass for 1 hr
Encoders are not equal too but if you are using just the one in Vegas then you may want to compare 90 min and 120 min output to see the difference because it may take a very unforgiving DVD player and display to show any real difference

Don't forget too that you get more space on the disc for video depending on if you make a menu , and how elaborate it is, as well as which audio format you chose

I've also got option on audio compression option.

There are 3-4 different one:

PCM
MPA (MPEG-1 layer 2)
Dolby(r) Digital 2-channel or 5.1

I thinking going for Dolby digital 2-channel.

Is this okay?

Thanks

Yes .. PCM is a space eater though CD and as such " best quality " and mpeg audio is in between
Ac-3 (Dolby Digital) is the best space/ quality ratio format if you have the option
