I am no expert, but you may struggle to achieve your spec with a £300 budget I am afraid.

I have recently got a Sony TG3, 1080i with 5.1 which I am happy with so far, which presently costs £400+.

I understand Canon do a good range ofHD camcorders as well, although I am not sure what level of audio recording they offer - I am sure someone will jump in and provide more information.

Best of luck

Wait , prices may have dropped by then

£300 is very tight though. prices dont seem to be falling that fast

Unlike Hi fi or AV kit though 5.1 recording is not "all that" in camcorders (IMHO) and as such not a "must have" feature lifestyle and gadget magazines would have you believe:
Needing it may also limit your choice if at all any is available for £300

" Full HD" is also an aspiration . Although more commonlythe norm now, it also doesnt mean better video in much the same way as more megapixels in a still digital camera doesnt equal better pictures

Re: Full 1080p HD with 5.1 camcorder-noob!-£300?

The Panasonic SD9, which records AVCHD-format video to memory cards, at 1920x1080, with 5.1 surround, was selling at around the £320 mark just prior to Christmas, but prices (for most camcorders, actually) have gone back up again. I'm not sure we'll see a similar reduction again: with the pound gradually reducing in purchasing power, I wouldn't be surprised if we see prices start to go up by March.

Crystal ball, anyone?
