remote control memory stick playback on sony camcorders

I have a Sony TRV33 camcorder.The remote control will not talk to the machine on memory stick playback(Play,pause,stop) In fact I cannot find any sony camcorder or for that matter any other manufacturers camcorders that will do this simple task. I connect via the i link to my Philips DVD recorder and then monitor the picture on the TV screen.Recording still images on tape works fine with the remote. Any ideas?
