m2ts conversion.

Hi,
apologies if this has been asked before.

I have an 22gb m2ts file -movie with DTS sound.
I want to convert this to an approx 5gb mkv file with AC3 sound.

AC3 due to the hard drive player that is being used and 5gb - well space.

I have seen but not used Ripbot - will this do the trick, just need to understand the settings. What about Automkv ?
any other ideas ?

appreciated

K

Re: m2ts conversion.

Hi,

I found a freeware program to do this conversion and have been trying it out on a 1gb m2ts file, but am ending up with a 1.4gb mkv file.
not sure why.

Can someone give me any advice on this - the 1.4gb file output is below.

thx
k

Re: m2ts conversion.

This is a camcorder and camcorder video editing forum, not a place where conversion of high def commercial films is discussed.

and where in my request do I have any info about commercial movies - when i merge over an hour of footage together I call it a movie.
As you can see it's an m2ts file from a Canon HG10.
the name of the file is 98mbtestfile - a film ?? - no - a file from my camcorder.

I have big files that I want to decrease and change to mkv for a particular media drive a colleague wants to play them with.

Re: m2ts conversion.

From your first post...
"I have an 22gb m2ts file -movie with DTS sound.
I want to convert this to an approx 5gb mkv file with AC3 sound."

The HG10 only outputs stereo Dolby. In fact I do not believe any consumer camcorders offer DTS audio.
