Sony Vegas MPEG2 Widescreen issue

All,

I'm trying to take some footage and render a MPEG2 Widescreen clip for playback.

The project properties are:
PAL DV Widescreen (720x576, 25.000 fps) with a pixel aspect ratio of 1.4568 (PAL DV Widescreen)

Problem I'm having is when I'm trying to render the clip. There is no template for rendering a clip in widescreen, so any of the options chosen all render in 4:3 with borders.

The only template which provides an output in widescreen is "DVD Architect PAL Widescreen Video Stream). Problem I have with this is that it doesn't include the sound!!!!

It also does not allow me to customise MPEG2 streams!

Can anyone advise how I get around this?

Thanks

Re: Sony Vegas MPEG2 Widescreen issue

hello there..

Not sure about Sony Vegas - haven't used it however to produce a wide screen video file the usual procedure would be:
1) Create and work in a timeline/project that is 16:9 and has appropriate pixel aspect ratio. This all should be part of a preset usually or you can create a custom preset.
2) Most important, When rendering / exporting the file, settings should be again 16:9 with correct aspect ratio. Even if you set it to 16:9 but choose wrong aspect ratio then it won't display correctly (it should be something like 1.43...)
3) Another issue is that some players don't display files correctly for some reason, just out of curiosity try playing the file using some other software and see how it runs.

I know its not much of a help but might guide you to the right direction.

At least that is how I do it in Adobe Premier.

All the best,

Denis

Thanks, - I'm doing it all right, there simply isn't an option to change the settings to the above when rendering with Sony Vegas 9. There must be a way to do this?

Re: Sony Vegas MPEG2 Widescreen issue

Good point. I've been using the DVD Architect widescreen template, but you're right it's video only. I'm getting a bit peeved with the lack of template customization. I also want to render an HD video with audio, but can't: the AVCHD type crashes on me and the MPEG2 is video only. Plus I can't change the field order when outputing MPEG2 for DVD....
