Need firewire port... no way of adding card, help!

I need a firewire port for capturing DV, but I've just looked into my PC and the ****ing stupid PCIe graphics card is so big that is covers both empty PCI slots.

Great. Any suggestions other than buying a whole new gfx card!

Thanks!

Re: Need firewire port... no way of adding card, help!

Your safest option would be to buy a multi-function front panel device (to fit into a spare 5.25" bay) with a Firewire port, such as:
IcyBox IB-861 50 in 1 FIXED Multi Card Reader & Multi Port Panel - Silver - Scan.co.uk

EDIT: was having a blonde moment when I wrote the above - this would just provide the connector - of course you would still need the actual firewire functionality in a card etc.

If you think it will fit you could get a low-profile PCI card, but there is still the risk the graphics card is too big:
Lycom PE-101 2 Port Firewire 1394a PCI-E Controller Low/Hi Profile - Scan.co.uk

Re: Need firewire port... no way of adding card, help!

Sorted!

The other side of the gfx card was a very small PCIe slot. Bit a research later - I have a fully functioning Firewire card installed! £25 from Maplin inc cable and software.

Phew
