Poor Super Steady Shot Quality on Sony SR11/SR12

I need some advice...I've had my SR11 for 3-months now and I am beginning to get frustrated on how shaky the videos are coming out. Everything is sharp with brilliant color but SHAKY. I have Steady Shot turned on. Is it just High-def that's bugging me. I'm not a particularly bad shaker when it comes to video. It seems my Sony digital8 cam did a much better job at keeping things steady.

It's to the point where I think there's something wrong with my camera and I should have Sony look at it.

Thoughts?

Re: Poor Super Steady Shot Quality on Sony SR11/SR12

Welcome here

Does this happen with a tripod/ flat surface though ?
Could it be you are using the Zoom at its limits

It may be a " problem" with the camcorder but it is equally the case that your thoughts regarding high def tending to exaggerate " faults " ( shake, panning, low light artefacts ect) is not without some basis
SD tends to be perhaps a little more forgiving

Before you jump to the conclusion that there's a fault, have you shot off some test clips with SSS deselected and then selected for comparison?

Re: Poor Super Steady Shot Quality on Sony SR11/SR12

HD does show up the steadiness issue.
With my Panny, which is supposed to have one of the best antishake systems around, I have taken to wandering around with a Leki Photosystem hiking pole. As well as keeping me on my 2 feet, the pole has a standard tripod bush at the top and works wonders on steadiness. I think it's better than a monopod, which unless you pay large quantities of money, tend to start slipping after a bit when you rest your full body weight on them!

it is doubtful the steady shot is worse than any hd cam on the sr11/12,using these small cams without at least a monopod can never give results that are pleasing to the eye,but if in doubt have the cam checked out, certainly i have yet to see artifacts on any footage from mine.
