Conned or just stupid

Hey all, new to these forums and just about to make an ass of myself.
I recently bought a Sony DCR SR 35 HDD Camcorder from ebay. It arrived perfectly boxed with all tags, bags manuals and leads in place, even though I knew I was buying a used camcorder.
However its dead as a door nail. I have read the accompanying handbook but just cannot get this camcorder to power on. Its in pristine condition and has no marks, rubs anywhere and still has tags and screen protector on.
Anyone have any advise on where to start to investigate where the problem might be ?
I have so far checked the fuse in the plug for the charger lead, but have no way of checking the lead itself to see if power is being supplied to the camcorder itself to charge the battery.
I hope Im just being dumb and that my camcorder isnt dead before I start

Thanks for any help/advise

Re: Conned or just stupid

How did you pay for it ?

If you paid via Paypal then you should raise a complaint.

If not, I don't think there is much you can do.

Re: Conned or just stupid

Cheers for the replies, firstly Im trying to establish whether Im being a complete idiot and not operating my new camera correctly, or If I bought a DOA camera.

The charging light does not come on when I connect the charging lead to the camera, however I cannot check that the charging lead is working as the end connector is a non standard one and I cannot connect it to any other source to see if it works. Likewise the manual states that the charging light wont come on if the battery is already charged, but again I cant check this as I have no other product to try it with. Should I just take it to a local Jessops etc and ask for advise in the first instance ?

Batteries don't generally come pre-charged, can the camera not be connected directly to the DC supply, negating the use/need of the battery? most can, it could be a faulty power supply, if you had a voltage tester you could check if there was a DC supply.
Also make sure that all connections are sound, I.E give them a firm push.

If it helps, on my SR36 the camera does power up using the DC power adaptor with no battery fitted (just tried).

Re: Conned or just stupid

was the auction supposed to be for a working camcorder? description? was it supposed to be in mint condition?
and you've not answered some of the questions, did you pay by paypal? i think you should go directly to the seller before it's too late. if i was the seller and you did not contact me until after a week, i would find it hard to believe you (unless i really did sell you a duff item).
