AVCHD help

ive just treated myself to a Sony SR12E HD camcorder...took some footage last night and have managed to transfer the files onto my pc hardrive... i wish to store the video onto an external hdd/ NAS and watch the footage via my ps3....when i look into the folder via a windows browser there are a good few files in there..but when i view the folder via the ps3 you can see the video clips only..bundled with the camcorder was picture motion browser...is there a way i can join the clips together so that it makes 1 complete movie rather than snippets as they are at the moment?...i can see that you can in the software export the clips to a wmv or mpeg2 file...but if you select AVCHD its asking for you to pop a disc in the driv and theres no option to select a folder on the pc as the location you want the movie. The ps3 will only play 1 clip at a time..i cant see an option to select all of the clips..its rather annoying on playback as you watch 1 clip that say is 30 seconds..then at the end it doesnt go onto the next clip...it just pauses....anyone know to overcome this..i dont really want to export to WMV/mpeg2 and therefore reduce the quality

Re: AVCHD help

The clips play straight through on my ps3, A recent firmware update allows clips to be played continuously. I think it was the same time they added scene search to videos.
Make sure you have the latest firmware, and I think you have to turn on the continous playback in the options menu somewhere.
Hope this helps

Re: AVCHD help

Yep, the above information is correct, there's a software update that allows continuous playback of AVCHD clips.
You should be to select the folders on your PC where the files were stored by PMB (on the left hand side of the UI), once opened they should display the thumbnails of the clips in the folder, you can then tick the clips to be used and burn them to an AVCHD authored disk whith a menu showing all the clips, this will play in your PS3 or just create a standard DVD.
If you want to join the clips you'll need a program like TSsplitter(free) which will join the clips, these can be transfered to you external HDD (fat32 only) for playback on the PS3, of course you can just put the individual clips on your HDD and the upgraded PS3 should play them back continously.

Re: AVCHD help

many thanks i ve maneged to tick the continuous playback option and it works..although there is a slight pause while it plays the next click.
Ive also looked at TSsplitter it looks as though it will only join .ts files..however in my folder i have various .m2ts , .modd and .moff files..24 files in total..although the ps3 is ony viewing 8 files....the clips? do i need all these files in the folder.. I was sort of expecting to be seeing just the clips with a .avchd extension

The slight pause is normal, it's much better than previously when the screen blacked out between clips.
The only files that you need are the .ts files the others are for management within the cam, so if you were moving the files to your PC for joining in TSsplitter then you would only need the .ts files, if you want to preserve the full structure of the files on your cam then you would transfer whole folders.
In you situation I would join the .ts clips in TSsplitter transfer them to an external usb HDD or memory card for viewing on the PS3, you could then, if you wish, copy them to the PS3 internal HDD but they would soon fill this up over time.

Re: AVCHD help

granted the pause is more acceptable than going back to xmb to select the next clip to play.

moving onto joining the clips via ts splitter.....it looks as though the software will only want to look for .ts files the camcorder footage is .m2ts files

ive done a quick google on the matter and there another free package TsMuxer thats seems to the job....just having a play on it now and will post my findings

*ok the TsMuxer works..i now have 1 file in my external hdd folder with all the clips merged and no pauses between clips...renamed the name to something more understandable to me....only drawback is that the scene selection bit of the ps3 doesnt work...and tbh..ive only recently noticed that function..so its not like i'm gonna miss that.

many thanks for your help peeps.

just gotta rip all my old formats onto the hdd now....thats for another thread
