Canon HF100 vs Sony TRV355E?

Any one changed from the Sony Digital 8 TRV355E?

Im interested in your verdict comparing the two cameras.
I am interested in the picture quality, both outdoors & indoors (low light living room), and how they compare when taking panning shots, as I have heard HF100 (and most AVCHD) dont pan too well.

I am really after a SD based recording system and the HF100 seems about the best for the price, is it an improvement on the Sony?
Any other SD based cameras to consider?

Thanks,
Gavin

Re: Canon HF100 vs Sony TRV355E?

I bought the Canon HF100 a couple of days ago and used it on the auto (idiot) mode in my house and was pleasantly surprised with the quality as the lighting in my house wasn't good at all.

Have a look on the following site which hosts video clips of many of the camera's available today.

Once you've joined (it's free), just do a search for the camera's that you're interested in.

Re: Canon HF100 vs Sony TRV355E?

I've just traded up from a Sony Hi-8 cam (TR840E) to the HF10 (the same as the HF100 but with 16Gb internal memory). Initially, I (and the wife) thought the HF10 was considerably worse than the Sony for indoor footage but it turned out to be rose-tinted specs because when I actually compared them by filming the same footage of our son playing in our living room, the Canon did look clearer and had much less noise. In low light, the Canon is (like all SD cams it seems) prone to grain and a drop in quality (don't expect miracles just because it's HD), but I'm happy enough with it. I haven't tried the Canon outdoors yet, so can't say what it is like, but it should be a lot better than indoors with the full HD loveliness.

Actually dont expect miracles in lower light and fast panning from any of the curent crop of Hi def camcorders. the tape models are a bit better but only just
Best to give then decent lighting

It will be . You will need to use manual controls though to avoid blow-out of high lights, back lighting issues and white balance errors , Auto is only so good
But its all abiout getting to know how to get the best from the camcorder . Im sure youll get there .. eventually
