simple novice questions

Hi all please be patient with me

Basically I bought a camcorder (JVC GZ-HD3) this week and I look forward to getting the most out of it

Had a play with it and took some clips of various things, uploaded to my PC as well as watching it direct to my TV the TV footage looked good (through component) is this HD? I mean it looks great but was just wondering...I have since bought a HDMI cable and the difference is minimal.

I used the supplied software with the camcorder to upload the footage (PowerCinema NE for Everio) and the clips show as being mpg files I decided to edit the clips and make a DVD so used the supplied powerdirector express to have a play.

Got it how I wanted it and so assumed I had to press 'produce' and had a choice of lots of different file types to produce it as, I chose Mpeg 2 and the quality is good.

Questions I have are;

1) Am I being stupid and doing evrything wrong so far?

2) What should I produce my files as to write to DVD's

3) What is the best way to email clips and videos (size, quality etc)

sorry f my questions are dense just brand new to all this stuff, sure I will getthe hang of it!

Re: simple novice questions

Well, i have the same camera as you, since May ,2008. I am not pleased with its editing issues! It has TOD files which are a freaken pain! What I did was i had to buy a new editing program called pinnical studio. About your questions, you don't seem to be doing anything wrong with your editing, its just probibly taking you a long time because it's such a problemed program to use. The best file to save it as, for me anyway, is a windows media player file in 1080 60p. It looks smooth and is full HD. To send via email you should probibly save it as either Mpeg4 or windows media player file small, (340x240). About watching it on the TV, the component is 1080i and the HDMI is 480p. Which means the component is better. I don't know why this camera would waste its HDMI port. But I hope this helped!

Re: simple novice questions

I LOVE the camcorder. It makes great movies even tho it has a max of 1440x1080P pixels. I am thinking of getting it a new battery because it only lasts 90mins usually. It has great manual settings. It makes OK night movies but I would recommend having an extra light just in case. But so far i give it a 9/10 on video, and 8/10 for photos on a Camcorder
