Editing workflow for HD footage

I need to edit footage from HF100. I would like to:

(1) Edit in HD and the down-convert to SD to produce DVDs. I am not sure whether my pc will cope with this (dual core 2.4, 2gb memory).

(2) Down-convert to SD and then edit to produce DVDs,

(3) Edit in HD and copy to media player (eg: popcorn hour) to watch in HD.

What software should I use and what is the best path. Any help is appreciated.

Re: Editing workflow for HD footage

Try Sony Vegas MS platinum Pro or UleadVS 11.5 or Corel x2
Adobe Premiere Elements 7 is new and I havent used it but it seems capable
Pinnalce studio is capable but is unruly ( unstable on many systems so hard to recomend without caution.)
However when it works it s very easy to use and gives good results
