Canon MV850i -random lines!

I like my MV850i a lot and it has done very well for me since I purchased it three years ago.
Having had it in storage for a year, now i have started to use it again I have noticed that old tapes had initially grey lines segregating the picture horizontally, now these lines have become more shimmery and coloured but still seperate the picture into 20-25 threads horizontally!
This seemed to get worse after I cleaned the heads with a mini-DV cleaner, rather than better as I had hoped!
New record on a new tape also has same lines.
Interestingly recording on solid state card doesnt cause any problems.
Anyone know of any bright ideas what this might be?

Thanks

Perplexed.

There could be several reasons, dirty heads would be the first thing, you may need to run the head cleaner again, it could be that the first time you ran the cleaner all it did was disperse the dirt, if you have left a tape in the cam for a long period the tapes magnetic coating can stick itself to the video heads then just smear when you play it.If the heads are dirty then using a new tape will make no difference.

Thanks glesgaguyav,
I have run the head cleaner probably 4 times now, I suspect it is probably the later ie magnetic rub off on heads.
Will try again and post if no better!

Don't keep retrying the head cleaners - they are abrasive and will damage the heads if used too often!

Mark.
