I am in video-editing HELL!!!! Plz Help!!!

Okay, so after reading all the pros and cons, I bit the bullet and got the Canon FS-100.

I love the camera.

The software easily converted the .mod files into MPEG-II flawlessly.

I've got 14.3 Gig's of video I need to edit.

Here's the problem...

I have Camtasia Studio 6, which only reads .avi files, so I convert the MPEG-II to .avi using SUPER. No problem.

Then i go to edit it in Camtasia and...the video sucks.

It jumps, skips, and basically just does a crappy job of rendering the video.

It ends up looking like a 2 mega-pixel piece of crap with no quality, and I shot all the video using the HQ setting on the camera.

So then I read all the reviews about how Camtasia is really only good for on-screen recording, and I think 'Great. $300 bucks down the tubes.

All I really need to do is 'cut out' parts of the video I don't want, nothing fancy. Just basic content editing. I don't even need title pages.

So I go into Windows Movie Maker (Windows XP), and only the audio comes through, no video.

I've tried everything from Jahshaka to every other one I could download on a trial basis and it always comes out bad.

I mean, it plays just fine in Media Player and every other player, but the quality degrades rapidly when I try to edit it, and even Movie Maker doesn't work. Any ideas???

TIA - kgp969

Re: I am in video-editing HELL!!!! Plz Help!!!

I would simply not use camtasia studio or WMM for the purposes of editing mpeg2 files
You should not need to convert from *.mod to mpeg then AVI as just by doing that in itself will degrade the video even before any editing occurs anyway
As it happens mpeg2 is a lossy format and recorded as such, there should be minimal reeencoding from camcorder to DVD

I would suggest

Simply get any of the readily available editng software
Sony Vegas MS
Ulead Video studio ( or Core 2X)
Adobe Premiere Elements
Magix, Cyberlink, Roxio or Pinnacle studio ( Even Nero vision )
ect
All edit *mod files, dont need you to convert to AVI and dont need WMM
Why not download trials of any these and give them a go
