Question Viewing Camcorder Footage on PS3 Issue (Via MS)

Hello there,

when I insert my Memory Stick Pro Duo into my PS3 to view the footage I've taken, it seems to display incorrectly on the PlayStation. I thought I would see all the videos separately in a list but they are all in one long video named AVCHD. Photos do display correctly on it though.

I was wondering if anyone else has this issue when viewing their footage on PS3?

P.S Sorry if this is in the wrong section.

Also you may want to know that the footage is HD, and taken on a Sony CX11E, if these have anything to do with it.

Any help appreciated, Dave.

Does the memory stick contain seperate .mts files or just a single file?

Re: Viewing Camcorder Footage on PS3 Issue (Via MS)

I cant fully answer your question as I am still researching which High-Def camcorder to buy for myself.

I would assume that the PS3 would just display a file for the memory card itself, rather than breaking it down into individual recordings.

I'm wanting a HD camcorder to use via my PS3 also. Can you recommend your Sony CX11E? Is the picture quality impressive when playing back via your PS3?

Hope you get your answer soon

Cheers

Thanks for the response. I'm sorry, how do you mean? I have multiple videos on the MS yes.

Thanks for reply, yes, but I personally would assume when you select the PRO Duo from the home menu it would show the multiple video files as separate videos, not compile them all into a half-an-hour long single clip.

Sorry, I think I should have made that clearer mate.

---------------------
And regarding the CX11E, I have only had it a few days but it is bloody good and I can't fault it. Touchscreen and menus are very intuitive to use, the camcorder itself is great to use being well balanced in the hand with easy to use buttons etc. and as for the footage, whether it is the Full HD 1080 or the 10.2 megapixel stills they playback in amazingly realistic quality on the PlayStation.

It does come with a 4Gb MS, which on the standard HD (not Full HD 1080 though) quality records an hour and a half I believe, but I am upgrading to a 16Gb as the current one only records half an hour of 1080P, which is reasonable for what comes in the box I suppose.
Face recognition works really well too with this hilarious smile shutter mode which, when it detects a smile, it automatically takes a photo. On Xmas day I turned it on and was blinding everyone with the flash - the more they laughed the worse it got! Be aware though that it does not have a viewfinder, just the LCD touchscreen. A bonus for me, but maybe not for all?

In short, look no further for what is, in my opinion, the best HD camcorder around.

Re: Viewing Camcorder Footage on PS3 Issue (Via MS)

Cheers for that info buddy. Think i'll put it on my short list along with the Panny SD9.

The main problem that I have, is that my computer isnt powerful enough to handle any of the HD editing software. So I'd like a camcorder that can edit unwanted scenes and then allow me to shove the memory card into my PS3.

Might have to go and look at the Sony tomorrow.

Thanks David, and happy flying....

Re: Viewing Camcorder Footage on PS3 Issue (Via MS)

The only cam to my knowledge that allows you to trim/arrange/join/delete and save the clips, in cam, is the Sanyo, well my HD2 did, Iam unsure what the newer ones can do, also I don't know if the files MP4(non standard) on the Sanyo HD2 would be compatible with a PS3.The newer ones may be.
Iam sure that some searching would give more info.

Just bought the Pany SD9 and when I put the card into my PS3 I also get one long video called AVCHD. I guess its just the way it is.

However, the SD9 allows you to split your recording into chapters so I will do this and see if it shows as seperate files on the PS3.

Re: Viewing Camcorder Footage on PS3 Issue (Via MS)

Post going slightly off topic, but if you transfer the AVCHD from you card onto the PS3 HDD the clips will be displayed as moving selectable thumbnails

Not at all off topic, yes that is if you copy the AVCHD. But I don't want to copy everything I take, I would like to view it first.

Re: Viewing Camcorder Footage on PS3 Issue (Via MS)

From my own experience, when using a USB flash drive, USB HDD or the internal HDD, the PS3 has one video per avchd file (.mts) or mpeg or divx. They are the only ones I have tried but I am suprised to hear the memory stick is different so I wonder if you are looking at a playlist that has all the videos joined up.
