Also i would like advice on the best camcorder to upgrade to in the future and why.

Something like these would be nice DVuser: New Sony HDR-FX1000 & HVR-Z5 HD camcorders but any camcorder film has a different look to most movie films that are made with 35mm film, only the very expensive cine alta etc give that look.

Re: My first movie

The film look is hard to achieve on a consumer cam but with software and some forethought and knowlege of your cams functions you can produce good results.

Here's an example Rainy Day Cinematography on Vimeo

Re: My first movie

The HV30 (replacement for the HV20) is to be had for around the same price (~£550) these days. In terms of which camcorder is the "best" as an upgrade, this depends primarily on how much money you wish to spend - and this figure will need to include "add ons" like decent editing software and archival solutions.

Re: My first movie

The camcorder price i would like it to be under £1000 really. And the software that i use is Adobe Premiere. But if you could advise me on any better then that would be much appriciated.

I am trying to get the same or similar picture quilty as the movies.

I also would like some help on creating a audio mic pole (if that is what you call it). On my camcorder all i have is a built in mic. So i want to find out how to make a audio mic pole so i could pick up all of sound easy.

Thanks alot for your help guys,

teci.

Re: My first movie

If you want a "film" look, then you'll get closest by using a camera that shoots 24p (24 progressive frames per second) and lighting your scenes well. Lighting is essential to improving the look of video. The problem with 24p is that you'll need to find editing software that can handle it: most can't. The other problem is that all sub-£1000 European model camcorders do not have a 24p shooting option (offering 25p instead). The US (60i) versions of the HV20 / HV30 do.

For audio, if you're going to be using a microphone boom, you'll want to look at a shotgun mic, in order to record the dialogue of your actors (if that's the kind of film you're making) and cut out ambient noises. Something like this might be a good place to start: Keene Electronics: Rode

Re: My first movie

I would suggest you hire a Canon XH A1.. way more than £1000 but it really is a tasty camcorder for the money
Otherwise the HV30 can be sed within its limitations with a little imagination and PP in software
