Question Codec Clarification (HF10/100)

Lots of talk about codecs round this forum...

I think I'm going to need one to go with my HF10...?

Do they come with the editing software (eg Vegas) or are they independent of software?

I've seen some described as 'faster' than others. Do they affect anything else too? Quality?

Is there a general opinion as to what 'the best' codec is for HF10 output, or is there a best for speed, a best for quality, a best for free etc etc?

Thanks

Re: Codec Clarification (HF10/100)

Hello. I just got my HF10 and it came with Pixela software. Both player and authoring package.
I installed it on work pc (just in case it messed with my home pc codecs) and it plays the vids just fine. My work pc had no HD codecs installed.

Maybe someone who's used the HF10 more than I have will be able to give us more info

Ahh - one other thing - I'm running Vista 64 and I don't think Pixela runs on 64-bit yet. Perhaps someone can confirm this too?

Thanks

Yes it runs on 64-bit but see here:

Have you tried it? I'd heard it doesn't work:

See: What is your AVCHD workflow?

I also don't think Vista 64 is listed as a compatible OS.

So, if you have tried and got good results, I'm keen to know more!

Yes though I haven't had time to use it extensively yet the simple functions I've tried worked fine. Version 3.1.0 (I see the website has 3.1.2).
