Editing/Tagging and cmacorder reviews

Dear forum members,

I am a complete newbie to Camcorders and video editing and was wondering if you could point me in the right direction on a couple of points please?

1.) I am going to start editing archived video on my PC and one major feature that i am interested in is 'tagging' sections of video so that I can collate them all together and maybe cut them into their own mini movies. Is this kind of functionality available on all good editors or do I need a specific type? Secondary to this, what editor software would you guys recommend?

2.) I am going to be in the market for a harddrive camcorder soon and obviously I'll be using the wealth of information on the internet as a guide but as I am a complete novice I was wondering if there is a decent review magazine that you would recommend, perhaps an equivalent to WHAT HI-FI??

Many thanks in advance!

Camcorders - Independent Camcorder Reviews, Ratings & Comparisons
Bear in mind that it's a US site which reviews US product - but the conclusions are generally sound.

Sadly I don't believe there are any dedicated camcorder magazines left in the UK. Sometimes PC mags and gadget mags review camcorders but they are best ignored to be honest. I would trust the reviews in camera mags though. As Andrew said your best bet would be to refer to camcorderinfo.com and another good source is simplydv.co.uk. Other than that it's all about reading user feedback on forums like this (time-consuming but well worth it).
