Unhappy AVCHD Playback on Playstation 3

I have a Panasonic HDC-SD9 camera which records AVCHD onto SD/SDHC cards. The PS3 can playback these AVCHD files. However, there is a big irritation in the way that it does this.

If I put the SD card into a USB card reader attached to the PS3, I am given the option of playing all of the AVCHD files together - i.e. it starts with the first 'clip' and automatically continues to subsequent clips. This is ideal.

However, if I copy all of the files on the SD card onto a DVD and put the DVD into the PS3, all I can do is navigate to the .MTS files in the STREAM directory and play individual clips - one at a time. The PS3 does not advance to the next clip so playing back typical home video consisting of multiple clips is extremely hard work!

Curiously, if I copy all of the files on the SD card onto the root directory of an external USB hard disk, I get the option to play them back together (as on the SD card). Unfortunately, this option is not available if they're in a subdirectory.

Does anyone know of any way of creating a DVD which will work like an SD card or external hard disk does, playing multiple AVCHD clips together? I don't want to join them into a single clip because then I lose the ability to skip forwards and backwards between them.

Note that I've tried copying the Panasonic HDWriter-copied files (which are renamed) onto a DVD, but this invariably results in an error code "This video cannot be played. (80029941)" after playback starts. This is particularly disappointing, as the DVD does appear to be recognized as containing AVCHD.

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks,

David

Re: AVCHD Playback on Playstation 3

i think it has to do with the BD Structure which is the way the camera writes onto the card.

lemme know if this is what you need:
BD2DVD: Blu-ray to DVD guide - Club CDFreaks - Knowledge is Power

Re: AVCHD Playback on Playstation 3

Thanks for the quick reply, zeroice.

Unfortunately, I can't see a way of doing what I want with TSRemux. Although it can open the individual MTS files and convert them to a Bluray directory structure (which I'm sure would play in the PS3), I can't see a way of giving it multiple MTS files simultaneously. Am I missing something obvious?

Re: AVCHD Playback on Playstation 3

i guess start from #3 and add the 000x.mts files to the same BD structure...then burn it with imgburn.

haven't tried it but i remembered the guide when i saw your post. try it and see if they play as they should.

Re: AVCHD Playback on Playstation 3

Ah, you think it will work if I do #3 (TSRemux) with the first clip, then just drag the subsequent clips straight into the Remux-created STREAM directory (renaming them to .m2ts on the way)?

I didn't think this would work - I'd assumed they'd need to be referenced by the playlist too. However, I haven't actually tried it...

I'll give it a go later.

Re: AVCHD Playback on Playstation 3

I don't have an SD9 but surely the HDWriter software has the ability to produce an 'AVCHD disc' (which is what you want)?

If not then commercial software like Nero is able to do that.
