Sony Vegas Platinum 8: Can't make a movie

Hi,

First time user of Sony Vegas and I'm having problems.

I have imported my footage, edited it on the timeline, added music and tiles and I'm ready to make a movie. Total running length is about 40mins

However, every time I try and "Make Movie" I'm having problems.

Firstly, when I try and save to Hard Drive on the default wmv settings it start (rendering..I think) and after a while it just crashes, staing there is a memory error. I have a Dual Core processor with 4g ram and loads of hard drive space, can't be short of memory for a 40 min film....surely?

Tried to "Burn to DVD", but just says my DVD is not valid (read only).

I'm really stuck. Can anyone provide any asistance/tips, for how to make a movie once the project is complete.

Thanks

Re: Sony Vegas Platinum 8: Can't make a movie

It might be easier to have a small talk through.
Ill PM much later today or tommorow with a phone no ( or you can too) . If you havent cracked it by then.
Wmv is not Vegas default AFAIK
A few questions though
  • What is your source of footage
  • Make Movie is to create a DV ready file
  • To actually burn a DVD I believe thisis done in DVD Architect Studio
Anyway.. a bit more info pls and maybe a talk through sometime soon
HTH

Unhappy Re: Sony Vegas Platinum 8: Can't make a movie

Thanks Senu,

I think I may have sorted tonight.

I have a Sony DCR DVD92E camcorder, which records onto mini DVDs. I finalise these and put them in the PC to rip the footage to Vegas. It saves the clips as Movie Clips .mpg files.

I understand this type of file is not great for editing?

Tonight I changed the render fomat to Mpeg 2 and it completed the render. Success!

I think it may be better to update my camera to something that produces footage that is in a better file format for these new editing programs. Does that make sense?

Cheers

Only insofar as rerendering tends to degrade quality. In general you can edit mpeg2 OK bearing in mind thatthe initial quality has to be good too

That was the way to do it. wmv tends to use microsofts own WM9 ( encoder) which can be erratic sometimes

Im not sure .. Only tapes DV AVI is uncompressed enough . However HDD and SD card camcorders use the same mpeg2 that your DVD camcorder uses. and For Hi def AVCHD (which is another story)
I guess its not just the format per se but how well the camcorder itself does the encoding
What is true is that Ive never been fond of DVD camcorder myself and I doubt that Im alone in that
