I missed the boat for the HF100. It was down to £450,thought I'd wait just a little longer to go even lower, went up to £502!!

hf10 has 16gb of built in memory and a memory card slot, hf100 relies on a memory card solely.

You can pick up 8Gb Cards for as little as £10 so the extra ££ for the 16GB internal memory probably isnt justified. On and the HF10 is black not silver

This would be true under normal circumstances, but Amaz*n's offer on the HF10 (£499, only £21.58 more than the HF100) skews things a little.

Thats what i thought then you will allways had 16gb backup if you run out of card space !!

I also like the black one.

So apart from colour and internal memory they are the same?

And does amaz*n seem the best buy at the mo?
Thanks shane

Re: New Canon HF10 /HF100 Part 2

I have done a fair bit of research and so far the HF10/HF100 seems to be the best camera in this price range. Amazon seems to be the cheapest (of the big retailers) at the moment, and as the HF10 is only £20 extra I guess I'll be going for that.

Anyway, what I would like to check is:

1) I will be recording in highest 1080 quality (why not, if its there), however my tv (Panasonic TH37PX70) only supports up to 720, will this be a problem, or will it downscale to show @ 720?
2) I take it the £50 rebate from Canon is available if purchased from Amazon?

The TV will downscale. I have a Panasonic 32" 720 LCD (LX70) and it has no problem to display the video from the HF100.

Yep. Amazon actually give details on the HF100/HF10 page via a link.

Bit dull compared to the one you looked at but from a security point of view that's a good thing and Lowepro have a very good rep.

Re: New Canon HF10 /HF100 Part 2

I have ordered the HF10 from amazon - now I need to find some SDHC memory and a nice case.. The lowepro 110 mentioned above is one of the options for me aswell.

If I buy a 3rd party battery, I understand the camera wont tell me how much juice is left, which is fine, but do I have to confirm EVERY time I switch the camera on that its a 3rd party battery and I wish to use it? I read this somewhere, but obviously wouldnt want to have to do that every time. Can anybody recommend where to buy a spare battery from?

Any recommendations for a mini HDMI cable so I can hook it up to the TV? Or are they all the same?

Re: New Canon HF10 /HF100 Part 2

I own an SD9, which is only marginally smaller than the Canons. I keep it in one of these: Lowepro Nova 1 AW Shoulder Bag For SLR & 2 Lenses: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo.

The camcorder fits nicely in the centre compartment, with room either side for accessory lenses / charger / spare batteries / minidisc recorder / external microphone and so forth. Plenty of room in the zip-up front compartment for a bunch of memory cards and other bits and pieces. Pretty easy to get in and out of. All well-padded, including adjustable compartment dividers, and smaller than you'd imagine given all the gear I've managed to find a way of cramming inside it, without it becoming cluttered. The "AW" in the model number is for "all weather" as the bag comes with a rain cover which folds away into a small zip-up flap when not in use.

I'm sure you'd be happy with whatever Lowepro bag you opt for, as they're a nice range.

Andrew.

ordered one too as I was getting fed up of going to shops with my HF100 and trying it in different bags. The Edit 100 is smaller and the HF100 actually fitted in that but it was very snug. Ordered the 110 as it felt much nicer in the shop.

its not silver.. its gunmetal.. BIG difference

HF100 is £478 on Amazon today
HF10 is £499

Horses for Coarses... but personally I'd still go with the HF100.. as i prefer the colour and media is all in one place - the memory card, rather than half on memory card and half on built in memory etc...

as for cases.. i use my crumpler which has my dslr in... and if i'm not taking my dslr i use my nikon zoom lens bag... fits well good ..

sorry to say but those bags mentioned above are just fugly :D
(gonna get flamed now!!)
