DVD cam to PC USB Quagmire!!

Sorry if this has been posted before - trying to get footage off sony dvd100e onto laptop via USB. Have followed all the instructions re installing driver, connecting/switching camera on in right order etc and camera is recognised in device manager etc but not in 'My Computer'. But if I uninstall the driver, it DOES then appear in 'My Computer'!! However neither of these situations let me video capture using NERO, saying capture device not detected. When the driver was uninstalled and the camera appeared in My Computer I managed to copy the data off the dvd and it created a VRO file. I've tried to convert this to .avi, .wmv etc using conversion software, and also changed the file extension to m2v and mp2v but with limited success. Any advice greatly appreciated

Re: DVD cam to PC USB Quagmire!!

Just pop the finalised DVD into the PCs Optical Drive. I dont see any need for USB in this instance. the disc itself can be copied ..can it not?

Re: DVD cam to PC USB Quagmire!!

Use videoredo that will import your dvd as advised you can then either edit it with that or export to use another editor .It is not free but the trial is fully working you have two weeks .Next time make sure you set the cam to video
VideoReDo MPEG Video Editing Software

Re: DVD cam to PC USB Quagmire!!

Thanks for the advice. I was having trouble with drivers and also my DVD drive was playing up, and although I could see and copy the .VRO file off the camera, it was a nightmare trying to convert it into something useful. But I've now discovered the best answer to this problem; download a free trial of Sony Vegas Movie Studio, and it'll read the .VRO file directly from the camera via USB (without even having the camera driver installed!) and import it straight onto your HD as .mpg. Bosh, job done!
