Canon HF10 and Panasonic HDC-SD9 - NE1 got any band-gig footage?

hiya peeps,

i'm about to get a cheap hd cam, primarily for filming budget tutorial videos.

but i am also very interested to use it to film local band gigs in typical pubs and small clubs etc

the SD9 is cheap - the HF100 is dearer, but does the extra cost show in low light settings?

does anyone here please have any footage online that I can view of any local band-gigs filmed by either camera?

that'd be cool - rsvp

cheers

If you shoot a lot of indoor footage definitely go for the HF100. The 25FPS Cine mode is a godsend for lowlight shooting performance. Outdoors it is closer, but the HF100 will still comfortably win.

I rate the HF100 as an all-around equal to the much pricier Sony SR12. I own the SR12, but use an HF100 for work projects.

I will try and upload some HF100 samples later (if I get time).

edit: you can download lots of sample footage from youtiube, Even though it is downscaled to SD you still get a good idea of the camcorders relative performance.

Re: Canon HF10 and Panasonic HDC-SD9 - NE1 got any band-gig footage?

well i got the hf100.

annoyance! no hdmi cable added in the box!, thats a bit cheesy seeing as i bought a high quality heavy duty 10meter hdmi cable this week for just 22 quid, they could have bunged in a short one.

it's quite grainy indoors it has to be said especialy with those energy saver indoor bulbs, but i'm messin with the aperture etc today and you can get BIG depth of feild if you mess with the aperture and shutter

anyhoo's, seems ok for the cash, i must say for just another 500-600 you can get a prosumer shoulder cam from panasonic or sony, but they would be too bulky for what i need to do in the majority (one hand shooting)

well i'll have a go with it and if there's anything worth viewing i'll come back and post a link

one thing i didnt see mentioned in the review (mebbe missed it, and i dont see it listed on canons site), but in the box manual/book under optional accessories it shows both a tele and a wide angle lens adapter you can screw on, plus a couple of filters. wonder if they can be had in Uk? and why not mentioned or trialed in web reviews anywhere?

cheers
