Re: Sony DVRTVR103 how to transfer HI8 to DVD

Please ,
Make it easy to understand: DL could mean Dual Layer.. in your case you mean download
Your in ability to capture ( that is the correct term) footage on your tapes to the PC has nothing to do with Nero

Footage on MiniDV tapes are recorded in a digital format which only needs a firewire option for PC capture
HDD/SD card camcorders ( also digital ) use USB for transfer to PC

However, Hi 8 tapes are analogue as such in order to get then on a PC you need to have hardware that will digitise them first, or on the fly

There are several ways which involve more than just using a bog standard PC
TV cards ( with video input) , little gizmo ( Google "Dazzle") or costliwe ADVC it
compatible Digital 8 camcorders ect ( they play Hi 8 but have firewire to enable PC capture ) Sadly not all do it and Sony doesnt make then any more but ebay might have some just make sure they are compatible)
You can also simply get a setop DVD recorder and use that to make DVDs .. Footage from the DVD videos can then simply be copied to PC if editing is desirable
HTH

Thumbs up Re: Sony DVRTVR103 how to transfer HI8 to DVD

If you had digital8 you could use FireWire straight to your PC.

You'll have to do what the chap above says or send them off to a transfer company who does hi8 to DVD.

I suggest that by the time you buy a video converter to do this and set it up you may as well get someone to convert them.

It's really cheap these days. get them done to AVI or DVD so ypou can edit (RIP) these yourself on your home PC.

I used these guys http://www.video-to-dvd.co.uk hi8 to dvd but there is a load of others if you do a search on google for hi-8 to dvd transfer.

Good luck

Re: Sony DVRTVR103 how to transfer HI8 to DVD

The Ops post was a month ago , probably sorted it out or put it on the back burner

FWIW not all Digital 8 camcorders have backwards hi8 capability
