Sony HD camcorder £60 cashback

Hi, just been to my local Costco store which has the sony hdr tg3 camcorder for £352 including vat which is an absolute bargin!
Just wondering if Costco is one of the retailers that meets sonys criteria to claim back the £60 cashback offer they are offering at the moment on their hd camcorders.
If so that would be amazing, a tg3 for £290!!
Cheers

Re: Sony HD camcorder £60 cashback

Hey Daroca I seen the tg3 in the Cardiff branch which is by me.
I picked up the tg3 today as it was too good an offer to pass.
When you go into Costco the electricals are on display and you then write down the product code take it to the till and they get your item from the stock room. Well to cut a long story short when the guy bought the camera out of the stock room he told me he was pretty sure that next week they will be doing a special offer on the tg3 and possibly knocking another 50 0r 60 quid off!!! So he said to me take the camera now, if the price does drop bring it back get a refund under their no quibble 90 day return policy and re purchase at the lower price. This combined with the cashback offer from sony could make it around the £250 mark which is crazy,if it dosen't come off well still the best price i've seen and costco give a 2 year warranty as standard!!
I will keep this thread posted if the price does drop!

Re: Sony HD camcorder £60 cashback

I just rang up my local store in Liverpool and they don't have any. They said that others might have some left over if they used to be on sale, or if that particular branch ordered them in in the first place.

Saying that she didn't sound all that clued up so I think I might take a visit to check it out with my own eyes.

Re: Sony HD camcorder £60 cashback

Definatly worth a check if its not too much of a journey. The Costco by me has only recently opened, but I have already seen quite a few things come in and out so maybe its one of those items once its gone its gone and they won't be replacing. Also seems to fit thats maybe why they are going to do a special offer on it to get rid of the last few.

Usually costco will price a clearance item ending with 97p. This ends with 99p so shouldn't be discontinued

Re: Sony HD camcorder £60 cashback

Well Just a quick update Costco did drop the price on the camcoder!! Dropped by £60 so it is now £292 and with the sony cashback offer it should come down to £232!!! which is amazing.
Took my one back and explained about the price drop and they gave me a full refund and told me to go grab another new one at the lower price!
Unfortunatly looks like they are a one off item as the lady who got mine from the stock room said there were only a few left.

I really don't understand costco's policy on refunds.
I think for your case, it would have been better for everyone for costco to refund you and let you buy yours back.
I'm sure this would have suited you.

Instead they refund, hence they have a used one which they cannot sell, and need to send back to the supplier, and you buy another which removes the chance of someone else getting their hands on one.

Puzzling eh?

Re: Sony HD camcorder £60 cashback

Yeah very puzzling, I offered to buy my one back, but they said no I had to go get a new one which to be honest was a pain as my one was fully charged and ready to go. Guess its just company policy and if it gets sent back to the supplier it ensures nobody gets a opened one with bits missing which has happened to me before when buying from argos!!

Re: Sony HD camcorder £60 cashback

From what I've read, Costco have an almighty stranglehold over their suppliers, and insist that the supplier must take back any return products.

After all, you can buy yourself a nice 60" plasma, watch the world cup or olympics for a few months, then return it for a refund, bargain
but, as a retailer, you couldn't cover the costs, so you lay it onto the supplier.

Did you know that the policy on pc's is 6 months refund, no quibble. That's after Costco tightened up the rules. It used to unlimited. People were buying pc's in the states, using them for 18 months, then returning them, getting a refund, and buying a new one for half the price and double the speed and spec. then next year doing the same.

It's kind of like a library where you have to leave a deposit.

I've just bought a new tv fom Sony centre, but if I'd had the gall (is that how it's spelled?) , I should have bought from costco, and keep renewing every 85 days or so to keep up with the latest spec?

Crazy eh? I don't know of any other retailer to offer such a policy

Yeah, to be honest, after reading this thread and the price, we rang up and the lovely Cardiff Costco lady (Kerry) put one away for us.
And I happened to be in the area.....

For the purposes of the £60 cashback, where do I find the serial number?

Re: Sony HD camcorder £60 cashback

Well my Costco experience has reached an even higher level (if thats possible!!), after returing my camcoder as it had dropped in price their customer service team rang me the next day at my work place to check everything was ok and I was happy with the service I recieved. I couldn't belive it, only a little touch, but something you don't seem to get these days!
I understand what you mean about their retun policy, its good in one sense, but could be taken advantage of. I only returned mine as the price dropped within a few days and I was told by the duty manager at the time of purchase that it may drop in price, but to take it now and bring it back if it did drop as he couldn't gurantee the drop or that their would be any stock left!!
At this price it goes to show how much mark up their is on electronic equipment I guess!!
(ps I dont work for Costco, just really impressed with my whole experience, oh yeah and their pizza in the cafe!!)

Interesting, never thought of getting that Sony model.

How does it compare to a proper full sized camcorder like Panasonic hdc-sd9.
And what is the battery life like?
