Transfering DV to my computor

I have a canon MVX 25i .
I managed to transfer from my cam to my computor but have a small problem.
I freind gave me his old computor which has adobe 6 .

My internet home connection is'nt working .So i am usong Internet caffe at present.

The other day I transfered some clips to my computor via the DV fire wire cable .
It plays back fine with picture and sound on that computor but when i transfer it to a USB portable hardrive stick which is one gig .

I then go to an Internet caffe and plug in my USB stick and though the picture plays fine there is no sound.

I am new to basic editing what am I doing wrong? how can I transfer the file so it has both sound and picture?

Dave

Re: Transfering DV to my computor

The computer you are trying to play it on may not have the correct audio codec installed. GSpot is a free software package which reads .avi files & tells you the audio & video codec info of the video clip. It also tells you whether the current PC you are on has the corect codecs installed to play it back.

Check it out here: GSpot Codec Information Appliance

You should be able to change the audio codec used when transferring the video to your PC - PCM or .wav audio is uncompressed so should work on all machines. The only thing is that the file size will be much bigger than a compressed format such as .mp3 or Dolby Digital.

Re: Transfering DV to my computor

Thanks Stevie bucks.

The clips I want to download are roughly 5 minutes each, basically songs for You tube.

Will that still require a lot of file size?
the adobe 6 software I have plays the video back in Matrix or matrax.

Re: Transfering DV to my computor

Normally you'd capture DV in an uncompressed format (raw .avi video), then convert to something else which adds compression i.e to a DVD compatible mpeg-2 clip or DivX.

I've never uploaded videos to youtube, so have no idea what format they need to be converted to first.

Largely correct although DV AVI is compressed ( albeit much less so than most other formats).

You tube itself has a list of compatible formats, and maximum file sizes
Most editing software ( including Premiere Elements ) produce You tube friendly files as output
Adobe Premiere 6 is rather old and may not

Hi Senu

Do you think that using Adobe 6 is a waste of time, I had no problem transfering the audio files to my usb stick but the video files its ot supporting.

There are lots of Mpeg files choices

Im simply not sure that Premiere 6 can support You tube friendly videos whereas almost any of the Elements version can
