Sony TG3 or Panasonic SD9?

I'm a complete novice at this stuff so please bear with me!

I want a camcorder for track days (in my car) so assume I need SD rather than DVD / HDD etc.

Am I right in thinking that I could (in time) buy extras such as bullet cams that could give me picture in picture and if so, what should I look for in a camera (assume it needs some sort of video in)?

The choice at the moment seems to be the Sony TG3 or the Panasonic SD9. I'm not sure either can deal with the bullet cam though?

Budget is £500 for the camera and 16GB SD card.

Finally, where should I be looking to buy the mount (for the harness bar)?

Thanks
Ben

Re: Sony TG3 or Panasonic SD9?

I'd be wary of a CMOS-based camera like the TG3 in any situation where there's high frequency vibration.

A relevant example: Rolling Shutter on Vimeo

Andrew.

Re: Sony TG3 or Panasonic SD9?

So I hope you learned the lesson not to use the TG3 when driving at 200mph

Re: Sony TG3 or Panasonic SD9?

Now also looking at the Canon HF100 which is slightly out of the price range but not by much...

Seen a couple of reviews saying that the AVCHD is impossible to edit. Is this right?

Thanks

Re: Sony TG3 or Panasonic SD9?

Just a few comments on Amazon and other customer reviews. Having read more, it seems that's not actually true but you just need a very hi spec PC. Not sure the 2.5 year old laptop is going to cut it. This could become very expensive!
