Got Sony DCR-SR52E video camera - problem downloading video clips to PC

Hi

Help desperately needed please. Purchased this camera a year ago and have never downloaded video. Now space running out on hard drive and need to film arrival of son - due anyday now.

Have imported video clips and tried playing them in Picture motion browser, Adobe Photoshop 5.0 and Windows media player and clips will not appear correctly in any of them. All show something along lines of grey box with crack through middle and Adobe tells me I do not have correct compressor/decompressor (codec) installed. Picture motion browser shows grey box with crack through middle and windows media says windows media encountered a problem.

Anyone able to help or explain why these clips are not downloading in a viewable format???

Thank you

G

Try
VLC
Your camcorder records to mpeg2 and windows does not have a Native codec for that ( XP at least)
Installing any basic software DVD playback software ( of which there are very many) should sort that out but VLC will play them back
