Question Questions about viewing hidef footage after editing. Newb needs help

Hi folks,
Earlier in the year I purchased a Panny SD5 camcorder. I took the camera to Florida and took loads of footage (6 x 8gig cards worth) so quite a few hours. I have played back the footage on the camera into our 42" Panny and am pleased with the results.
Due to being real busy I have had not had time to do any editing of the footage but am now ready to get into doing it all.
I imported all the cards and their footage to my my Mac (Imovie 08) as soon as I came back from holiday and also backed up the cards to an external HD for safe keeping.
What I want to do is do all my editing in Imovie 08 then create a movie with menus for watching on my HDTV. Is it possible to create a movie with menus etc? I realize I cannot put said movie on a DVD due to size limitations and I am not about to buy a Bluray burner. I would however like to stream the file or something similar. I have a PS3 I can stream to or have also considered buying an Apple TV. I will also buy software if needed to achieve what I want. I will also burn the movie to DVD in standard def for others to watch.
I have no probs editing the movies on my Mac but only have Imovie 08 and Imovie HD and the rest of the Ilife stuff. I also have Toast Titanium.
Would the ATV be worth buying or just use the PS3?
Been looking round for the last hour or so but to be honest it's a bit of a minefield to me at the moment.
Ultimately I want movie(s) in hidef with menus streamed or from my external 1TB drive. Is this possible?
Cheers, Rich
PS Sorry for the long post

Re: Questions about viewing hidef footage after editing. Newb needs help

AppleTV only supports 720p: a bit lame in this day and age of "full HD" fanfare.

If you want menus, you'll need to make a DVD with chapters.

Andrew.
