Question Burning Blu-Ray Project to DVD Disk

Is it possible to burn a Blu-Ray project from, say, Sony DVD Architect Pro 5.0, onto a standard or DL DVD disk and for that disk to play as a Blu-Ray title on a Blu-Ray player? If so, how do you do this because up till now I have not had success - at least with the Panasonic DMP-BD35.

Using an LG GGW-H20L writer I have burned the two folders BDMV & CERTIFICATE to a DVD formatted as UDF 2.50. But while the Panny recognises the disk okay as a DVD it then throws up a message saying 'unsupported' and won't play the title. I have tried different burning programs: IMGBURN, NERO, POWER2GO and have tried burning direct from Sony DVD Architect Pro 5.0. But no joy so far.

Am I attempting the impossible? Or is there something I am missing? Also, is it conceivable that only 'some' Blu-Ray players will play BD titles from DVD disks and that the Panny DMP-BD35 is not one of them?

Obviously my desire to burn Blu-Ray to DVD stems from the current high cost of Blu-Ray blanks. I hope someone can help. Many thanks in advance.

Re: Burning Blu-Ray Project to DVD Disk

There are 2 answers

AVCHD discs have a BD video stream structure on a DVD disc

Nero 8, Ulead Movie Factory 6+ ( With HD add on) Pinnacle Studio 12 , Ulead Corel 11.5/ X2 are known to author AVCHD discs

Will they play on all BD players?
Not unless stated specifically although the ubiquitous PS3 does play them
I know One or 2 Samsung and Sony models which do to but Im less sure about any Panasonic BD player
It may be the way you author them too althouh the DVDA output should be fine
Most software BD players play them as well if you have them on your system

Re: Burning Blu-Ray Project to DVD Disk

Many thanks for this. Perhaps I shall try authoring AVCHD disks instead of Blu-Ray ones. I know for sure that AVCHD plays on the Panny DMP-BD35, both from disk and from SDHC card. I am also going to take my 'failed' DVDs into Comet to try them on other machines

If they've got one hooked up to a monitor I certainly shall - and report back.
